6 Reasons to Build a Garage on Your Home

If you have space on your property, you may be thinking about having a garage built. However, you aren't sure if this is the best use of the space. What are the benefits of adding a garage to your home?

1. Make Your Car More Secure

While parking your car on your property or in a carport is a bit more secure than parking on the street, these are not perfect solutions. If someone really wanted to steal your car, they can still get to it from a driveway or a carport.

A garage is much more secure. Your car will be stored behind a lockable door, making it much harder to access.

2. Give Your Car Full Protection

If you park your car in the open, then it is subject to external factors. Your car may be affected by weather problems such as sun fading and hailstone damage. If trees overhang your usual parking spot, then your car's bodywork may get damaged by drops of tree sap or bird droppings.

Even if you use a carport, you don't get full cover. The top of your car may be protected but its sides may not be. If your car is in a garage, it is kept dry, cool and safe at all times.

3. Add Storage Space

If you're short on storage space in your home, then a garage may help. You can store other stuff in the garage as well as your car. So, for example, you could put your garden equipment in there and your tools. You may have room for a freezer or even a washing machine.

4. Create a Flexible Space

Your main reason for building a garage now may be car storage, but this building can be used for other purposes down the line. So, for example, you may be able to convert the space to an extra living room or even bedroom if your family grows and you need more space.

5. Save Money on Car Insurance Costs

Having a garage for your car may reduce your insurance costs. If you can commit to always keeping your car locked in the garage when it is parked up, then your insurer may give you a discount on your premium.

6. Add Value to Your Home

Adding a garage to your home may increase its value. At the very least, it may make it a more attractive prospect. Your home may sell more quickly than properties that don't have a garage, for example.
